Dormont Meeting Notes, Jan. 30 2012

Here's a rundown of topics discussed at Monday's Dormont Council meeting.

Here’s a roundup of some items that were discussed at Monday’s . The following items have not been approved. They will be on the Feb. 6 meeting agenda for further discussion and possible votes.

  • Appointments to various borough boards and commissions. Council President Bill McCartney said council held off making appointments at the last meeting to give more community members the chance to apply for open positions. Recommendations for appointments will be made next week.
  • Approval of a first payment to SHACOG for Robison Pipe Cleaning Co. in amount of $8,811.47 for Consent Order Preventative Maintenance.
  • Council plans to advertise an assistant borough manager position. McCartney said council, as well as borough manager Gino Rizza, would interview candidates for the position.
  • Approval of a liquor license resolution.
  • Approval of a resolution opposing the court-ordered reassessment of Allegheny County. McCartney said the resolution is to be made by all municipalities and school districts in Allegheny County at the request of Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, to put pressure on the legislature to review the reassessment process.
  • Motion to rescind the demotion of police Chief Phil Ross from sergeant to patrolman. McCartney said the motion is mainly a housecleaning issue, and is the correct procedure to follow after Ross was reinstated as police chief.
  • Approval of a bid from El Grande Industries in amount of $61,500 for the parking lot construction on the corner of West Liberty and Hillsdale avenues.

The next Dormont Council meeting is Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Dormont Municipal Center on Hillsdale Avenue.
