Dormont Hires Borough Manager

Council made the announcement this week, and will vote on the issue on Monday.

has hired a new borough manager, contingent on a vote by council at the July 2 meeting.

Jeffrey Naftal has accepted an employment offer from the borough, and is expected to begin employment with the borough on July 2 after council makes an official vote.

Naftal, who has worked as a municipal manager for more than 25 years, has extensive experience in finance, land use and economic development, Councilwoman Joan Hodson said. He also has supervised parks and recreation, public works and information technology departments. He has mainly worked in Florida and South Carolina.

Naftal has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from George Washington University and a Master of Science in Public and Human Resource Management from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida.

Hodson said she is relieved that the process is over, and happy with the choice the borough has made.

"I think he'll bring in a fresh perspective," Hodson said.

. In March, the law firm was hired as the new solicitor, and council laid out a .

Although the process was long, council President Bill McCartney said the wait was worth it.

"It was a long process, but it was fairly done," McCartney said. "We arrived with no rancor at Mr. Naftal. It took awhile, but we think it was worth it to do it the right way."

The next Dormont Council meeting is July 2 at 7 p.m., in Dormont Municipal Center on Hillsdale Avenue. Naftal and his family are expected to attend.
