Dormont Council is seeking applications for a vacant council seat.
Councilwoman Laurie Malka submitted her resignation to council on Monday, effective immediately, leaving an open seat on the seven-person council.
The appointed applicant would fill the remainder of Malka's council term, which ends in December of 2013.
Borough residents interested in serving on council should submit a letter of interest to borough manager Jeff Naftal by this Friday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m.
Residents who submit a Letter of Interest will have an opportunity to briefly state why they want to be appointed to council at the Sept. 24 council agenda meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
Council will vote on a selection at the council business meeting on Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.
Letters of interest should include the following information:
- What time commitment a candidate can make per week or per month.
- One or two issues that the Borough needs to address in the short term (1-2 years).
- One or two issues that the Borough needs to address in the long term (2-10 years).
Letters can be sent to Dormont Municipal Center or emailed to Naftal at jnaftal@boro.dormont.pa.us. For questions, call the borough manager at 412-561-8900, ext. 228. More information is available on the Dormont Borough website.
