Dormont Council Seeks Applicants for Vacant Seat

Councilwoman Laurie Malka resigned from council, effective Monday, and council is now seeking to fill the position.

Dormont Council is seeking applications for a vacant council seat.

Councilwoman Laurie Malka submitted her resignation to council on Monday, effective immediately, leaving an open seat on the seven-person council.

The appointed applicant would fill the remainder of Malka's council term, which ends in December of 2013.

Borough residents interested in serving on council should submit a letter of interest to borough manager Jeff Naftal by this Friday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m.

Residents who submit a Letter of Interest will have an opportunity to briefly state why they want to be appointed to council at the Sept. 24 council agenda meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.

Council will vote on a selection at the council business meeting on Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.

Letters of interest should include the following information:

  • What time commitment a candidate can make per week or per month.
  • One or two issues that the Borough needs to address in the short term (1-2 years).
  • One or two issues that the Borough needs to address in the long term (2-10 years).
