Dormont Board To Consider Parking Options

More data might be needed before the Traffic and Parking Planning Commission can make recommendations to council, according to reports.

Dormont Borough's Traffic and Parking Planning Commission will need more time, and possibly more information, before advising Dormont Council on how to handle a parking shortage in the borough, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

According to the report, commission Chairman George Pitcher said that in some cases, the group might need more data before making a recommendation. That data would include items like the width of streets, to determine if some two-way streets can safely be converted to one-way streets without affecting emergency vehicles that might need to pass through.

A study by graduate students from Carnegie Mellon University was completed this past spring, and was released in July. The study revealed that the borough has a shortage of parking spaces in residential neighborhoods.

The commission plans to hold a closed meeting before its Oct. 8 public meeting to discuss recommendations to bring to council at the November public meeting.
