Kuzak was shot three times by fleeing suspects when he reported to a home invasion in Clairton on April 4. Kuzak lost half the blood in his body and required numerous transfusions to replace the volume of blood lost.

According to the Central Blood Bank, approximately 60 percent of the population is eligible to donate blood but only five percent do.
