Police Charge Two for Fight at Vasta

Dormont police blotter, Sept. 7 to Sept. 14.

Two people face charges in connection with a Sept. 7 fight at Vasta on West Liberty Avenue.

Andrew Bracken, 24, of Pittsburgh and Charles Bracken, 47, of Baldwin, were charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Dormont police were dispatched to the West Liberty Avenue bar just before 2 a.m. Sept. 7 for a report of a fight between two groups of people. According to the police report, the men walked into Vasta and began yelling racial slurs at a couple sitting at the bar, then assaulted both people.

At the time, witnesses were unable to give statements in support of either group, according to the report. Police reviewed surveillance tape from inside the bar, which led to the arrests.

Sept. 9

  • Police responded to Apple Inn on West Liberty Avenue at 1:50 a.m. for a report of an intoxicated customer who had spilled patrons’ drinks and then passed out. Police charged Heather Knecht, 27, of Castle Shannon with public drunkenness. She was held at the Dormont police station until she was sober.

Sept. 13

  • Dormont officers assisted Mt. Lebanon on a call at 7:36 a.m. in the 1600 block of McFarland Road about an intoxicated man who was sitting in a car he didn’t own. Andrew Winward-Green, 33, of Mt. Lebanon, was arrested and taken to the Mt. Lebanon police station. Charges were filed by Mt. Lebanon police.
