Police Catch Brookline Woman Stealing Copper Pipe

Crime Updates from Pittsburgh Police Zone 6, Aug. 6 to Aug. 11.

A Brookline woman was arrested Aug. 7 after she was caught stealing copper pipe from a home on Brookline Boulevard.

Pittsburgh Police responded to the 1200 block of Brookline Boulevard at 1:20 p.m. for a report of a burglary.

According to the police report, Melissa Schmidt, 36, had forced open a side window and was in the process of removing copper pipe from the home when Zone 6 Officers arrived.

Schmidt was charged with burglary, and is being held in Allegheny County Jail, according to court dockets. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 8 a.m. before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.

Burglary

  • Someone forced open a rear window of a home in the 1300 block of Methyl Street in Beechview between noon on Aug. 10 and 6 p.m. on Aug. 11 and stole money and personal papers.
  • Charges are pending against several juveniles who allegedly broke into a home in the 1100 block of Shadycrest Drive in Beechview on Aug. 5 between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., ate candy bars and stole two iPods.

Theft

  • A minibike was reported stolen from a garage in the 1100 block of Clippert Avenue in Brookline between 11 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 4 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Criminal Mischief

  • Paint was thrown on cars in the 900 block of Fordham Street in Brookline between 12:30 and 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 6.
  • A vehicle parked near Saranac and West Liberty avenues in Beechview was damaged between 5 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 3 a.m. on Aug. 9.
  • The windows of a vehicle were broken and its tires were slashed while it was parked in the 2100 block of Broadway Avenue in Beechview at 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Arrests

  • Bryan Delandro of Brookline was arrested for assaulting an off-duty police officer who attempted to intervene in a dispute in the 1100 block of Brookline Boulevard in Brookline on Aug. 8 at 11:22 p.m.
  • Michael Terlecki of Brookline was arrested for DUI in the 1100 block of Banksville Road in Banksville on Aug. 10.
