Pittsburgh Man Charged With CVS Robbery

Dormont police blotter, Jan. 18 to Jan 25.

Dormont police have charged a Pittsburgh man for a robbery last week at the CVS Pharmacy on West Liberty Avenue.

Sherman Jones, 35, with a last-known address in the City of Pittsburgh, was charged with retail theft. Police said he stole $240 worth of cigarettes from CVS in a smash-and-grab-type robbery.

Dormont Sgt. Jim Briglia said the Dormont police were able to work with police in McCandless Township to find Jones. According to the police report, McCandless Township police informed Dormont police earlier this week that Jones had been arrested for committing a similar robbery at a CVS Pharmacy in the North Hills area.

Jones already was being held in Allegheny County Jail on those charges, and was given notice of the additional charges from the Dormont incident on Friday.

Briglia said the retail theft charge is a felony in this case because Jones has 14 prior convictions for the same offense. Jones is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail.
