Pittsburgh Man Charged In Dormont Robbery

The following information was supplied by Dormont Police. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Pittsburgh man is charged with robbery after police said he used a knife to steal a gin from a woman on West Liberty Avenue on Saturday, according to Dormont police.

The woman said she encountered Derrick Brumfield, who she knew, after she left the state store in the Dormont Village Shopping Center, according to police. He asked her what she bought and if she had anything for him. She told him he couldn't have any of her gin, at which point he pulled a knife, police said.

Officer Tom Maloney stopped Brumfield, 51, outside the Hollywood Theater, shortly after 1 p.m. after a witness flagged him down. Maloney held Brumfield at gunpoint after Brumfield refused his orders to put his hands in the air then reached into his waistband and began to turn towards Maloney, police said. He was taken into custody without further incident.
