Pittsburgh Man Charged After Vasta Fight

A man faces multiple charges for his alleged involvement in a March 10 fight at the local bar.

A Pittsburgh man faces multiple charges after his alleged involvement in a fight at Vasta in Dormont on March 10, in which several people were injured.

Dormont police said Jose Rivera, 33, was involved in a fight inside the West Liberty Avenue bar that night.

Rivera was charged with aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, and is being held in Allegheny County Jail as of March 12, according to the court docket. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 14 at 1:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Blaise Larotonda.

Dormont police responded to the West Liberty Avenue bar at 1:55 a.m. March 10 after receiving a report of a fight.

Police arrived on scene with assistance from the Mt. Lebanon, Castle Shannon and Baldwin Township police departments and broke up a large group of women fighting in a nearby parking lot.

Police then learned that a man and woman also were assaulted inside the bar. According to the report, the woman had injuries consistent with being hit with a beer bottle, and the man had a large laceration on his side.

Witnesses described the man involved in the fight inside the bar—later identified as Rivera—and told police he had a knife inside the bar, according to the police report.

Police said Rivera was found sleeping in an acquaintance’s car in the 2900 block of West Liberty Avenue, where he was arrested.
