Motorists Traveling Through Brookline: Watch For School Zone Police Patrols

School zone enforcement officers have issues hundreds of citations since the school year started.

The City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police will be providing targeted enforcement of school bus and school zone laws in areas where there have been a number of repeat violations.

From Sept. 6 through 16, the police officers issued 482 citations for motorists exceeding the speed limit in school zones; 12 motorists for passing school buses while stopped with activated flashing lights; and a couple of school buses for speeding in actual school zones.

In addition to the daily enforcement, it is the goal of police to make school zones safer for children. Police request that motorists drive with care through the school zones and school bus routes.

In this two-week Back-to-School Safety Initiative, 50 school zones were enforced. In a press release, police said is imperative that the motoring public drive with caution through these zones "for the safety of our children, pedestrians and other motorists who are in compliance with the law."

The police traffic division will make every effort to continue to educate the public on the dangers of speeding in school zones and the passing of school buses. Police ask motorists to obey the laws and signs when traveling in a posted school zone and adhere to the flashing lights of a stopped school bus that may be loading or discharging students.
