Mother Charged in Green Tree Near-Drowning

A mother faces charges after her child nearly drowned at a Green Tree hotel.

The mother of a child who nearly drowned in a bathtub at the Best Western Hotel on Greentree Road has been charged with attempted homicide, according to the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit.

According to police, Sharon Flanagan, 33, of West Virginia, arrived in the area around 6 p.m. Sunday with the child and checked into the hotel. The child's father was still in West Virginia.

Green Tree police and paramedics responded to the hotel around 8:30 p.m. for a report that a child had possibly drowned in a bathtub. Police found the 2-year-old boy unconscious, unresponsive and without a pulse.

Paramedics were able to regain his pulse and the boy was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

According to the report, Flanagan was in the room at the time of the incident and gave police different versions of the events that had taken place.

Flanagan was arrested Monday and taken to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and recklessly endangering another person.
