Fire on West Liberty Ave. in Dormont

Four departments responded to Tuesday's fire.

A fire broke out on West Liberty Avenue in Dormont on Tuesday night, affecting several buildings in the strip across from the Cochran Nissan dealership.

Chief Dennis Davis said the fire started around 7:30 or 8 p.m. at 3227 West Liberty Ave. The building houses an AllState Insurance agency and several apartments.

Davis said the fire started at the back of the building and spread up to the third floor. The cause of the fire and amount of damage to the businesses and apartments is unknown at this time, he said.

At least eight residents were displaced. Davis said Red Cross had been called to assist those needing shelter.

West Liberty Avenue was closed between McFarland Road and Park Avenue between 8 and 10:30 p.m. One-lane restrictions were in effect from Scott Road in Mt. Lebanon to McFarland Road in Dormont until 10:30 p.m.
