Fifth Burglary Reported in Dormont Since Memorial Day

Two days after three overnight burglaries occurred on Voelkel and Broadway avenues in Dormont, another was reported in the 2800 block of Connecticut Avenue.

According to the police report, someone broke a glass pane in a rear door, entered the home and opened cabinets and drawers in the living room, dining room and kitchen. A first-floor bedroom was ransacked and two gold rings and $400 in cash was stolen.

The home was processed by the Allegheny County Crime Scene Unit and police are investigating the burglary.

In addition to the four recent burglaries, several items, including an iPad and DVDs, were reported stolen just after 1 p.m. from a home in the 1200 block of Biltmore Avenue on May 26.

According to the police report, a neighbor later told police a young male teen with a thin build and blond hair had been seen on the porch of the home the same weekend as the robbery.

An attempted burglary was reported May 28 in the 3100 block of Pioneer Avenue. In that case, the homeowner told police someone tried to enter the home by removing or propping up window screens. Handprints were left on some of the windows, according to the report, and police are investigating the incident.
