Early July 4th Celebration Ends in Charges Against Dormont Men

Two men were charged for throwing fireworks out the window of a West Liberty Avenue apartment building.

A Fourth of July celebration started early but ended in charges filed against two Dormont men.

A man told police he was sitting in southbound traffic on West Liberty Avenue on June 25 just before 9 p.m. when a man threw a firework out of an apartment window.

The firework exploded near the driver’s door of the car, and the driver told police the person in the window then yelled, “Keep driving, it’s the Fourth of July.”

Dormont police Chief Michael Bisignani said the man was not throwing full-sized fireworks, but that the explosive thrown did cause damage to the side of the driver’s car.

According to the police report, the driver pulled over and called police when he saw the damage to his vehicle, and reported that another man was throwing fireworks down onto the sidewalk.
