Drugs, $13K in Cash Found During Beechview Traffic Stop

Drugs and a large amount of cash were found in a car during a traffic stop on Broadway Avenue.

Drugs and a large amount of cash were found in a car during a routine traffic stop on Broadway Avenue in Beechview, according to a report from Pittsburgh Police.

According to the police report, an officer stopped a car in the 1700 block of Broadway Avenue just after 9 p.m. on March 30 for speeding. The driver was unable to produce a drivers license, and according to the report, officers smelled marijuana inside the car.

Officers recovered a large amount of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags, stored inside a computer bag in the car. A plastic bag containing $13,300 of cash and a 40-caliber round of ammunition also were found in the car. No weapons were found.

The driver, identified as Alejandro Hernandez or Alejandro Fernandez, 22, of Brookline, was taken to Allegheny County Jail without incident, according to the report. He was charged with reckless driving, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia—use of possession.
