Drug Charges Filed After Police Respond to Apartment Fire

Dormont police blotter, Feb. 1 to Feb. 8.

Dormont police were dispatched with the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department to an apartment fire in the 3000 block of West Liberty Avenue on Feb. 7.

Police Sgt. James Briglia said once inside the apartment, police found drug paraphernalia, scales, and marijuana.

Michael Curtin, 24, of Dormont, was charged with possession and possession with intent to deliver, according to court records. Briglia said Curtin was charged by summons.

Briglia said the fire was started by an unattended candle. There were no injuries in the fire, and minor damage to the apartment. No residents were displaced.

Feb. 2

  • Dormont police responded to Vasta on West Liberty Avenue at 1:55 a.m. for a report of a fight. Joel Hatfield, 22, of Brookline, was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Feb. 5

  • Police responded to the Exxon station at the corner of West Liberty and Pioneer avenues at 4:40 a.m. for a report of a disturbance inside the store. Charles Bracken, 24, of Beechview, was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

Feb. 7

  • A resident reported that someone threw a brick through the windshield of his vehicle while it was parked in the 3100 block Annapolis Avenue. Police are investigating the incidents. No arrests have been made.
