Several vehicles and a local business were damaged during a DUI-related crash in Brookline Wednesday morning.
Pittsburgh police officers responded to the 1500 block of Saw Mill Run Boulevard at 12:09 a.m. for a report of a vehicle crash that caused damage at Best Auto Mart.
Police determined that the driver—later identified as Ryan Peterson, 24, of Pittsburgh—was traveling south on Saw Mill Run Boulevard when he drove off of the roadway and struck five unoccupied cars in the Best Auto lot before his car came to rest on top of a parked Nissan Maxima. In addition to the vehicle damage, Best Auto Mart sustained property damage.
According to the police report, Peterson ran from the scene on foot and was found on a hillside behind the used car lot by a Pittsburgh police Zone 6 K-9 officer. Police said they smelled alcohol on Peterson’s breath, and saw that he had bloodshot eyes, and swayed back and forth while walking and standing.
Peterson, who was driving his grandmother’s vehicle, has a suspended Pennsylvania driver’s license, according to police.
Peterson was taken to Allegheny County Jail and charged with DUI-general impairment; accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles or property, careless driving and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14 at 8 a.m. before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.
