Dormont Residents Were Home During Nighttime Burglaries

Warm weather means open windows, and in Dormont last weekend, it meant several burglaries.

Dormont police said three burglaries were reported—one on Voelkel Avenue and two on Broadway Avenue—overnight between June 1 and June 2.

In all three cases, the residents were at home and sleeping when the burglaries occurred.

"We're just really warning people right now to keep doors and windows locked, and make sure window air-conditioners are secured, especially in first-floor apartments," Dormont police Chief Michael Bisignani said.

Bisignani said the burglars entered the homes through open rear or side windows, and in one case cut open the screen on a window to enter. He said it seems that smaller, easy-to-grab items, such as purses, were stolen.

Dormont police are currently investigating the burglaries, and ask that if residents see anyone or anything suspicious in their neighborhoods, to call 911 immediately.
