Dormont Police Remind Residents to Pay Parking Tickets

police are warning residents to address their parking tickets.

Officer James Burke said the police have had boots put on about 20 cars in the past two weeks after tickets for illegal parking violations weren’t addressed.

“We want people to be compliant,” Burke said. “We want people to respond to these tickets so we don’t have to impound the vehicle.”

Burke said that for each ticket that isn’t responded to, a reminder letter is sent to the vehicle owner. Borough ordinance states that a vehicle can be booted and towed after it sits for 24 hours with no response—and towing ads an additional $100 fee to the parking ticket.

Burke said the police department would rather residents address tickets, whether by paying or appealing them, so that residents don’t incur extra fees.

July 13

  • Two Dormont police officers on duty noticed a man sleeping in a car in the Krugh Lot in the 2900 block of West Liberty Avenue around 10 a.m. Patrick Taylor, 32, of Beechview, was charged with public drunkenness.

July 15

  • Dormont police located a woman who was lost, and returned her to a local care home.
  • Police responded to a Dormont home at 4:35 a.m. for a report of a 47-year-old man who had assaulted his girlfriend. The man was charged with simple assault.
  • A 21-year-old Dormont man was arrested and taken to Allegheny County Jail for violating a protection from abuse order filed by his girlfriend.

July 17

  • Dormont police responded to a report of a car accident at the intersection of Biltmore and Gaylord avenues at 8 a.m. According to the police report, Andrew Zirpoli, 22, address unknown, told police he was on his way to work and had driven through a stop sign on Biltmore. Zirpoli received a careless driving citation. No injuries were reported.
