Dormont Police Participating In Drug Take Back Day

Expired and unwanted prescriptions may be dropped off Saturday in the Dormont Pool parking lot.

The Dormont Police are participating in the National Take Back Initiative to remove unwanted and expired prescription drugs from people's homes.

Officers will collect items at the Dormont Pool parking lot Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The program is intended to increase awareness of prescription drug abuse.

While the take back targets prescription drugs, Sgt. Jim Burke said the collection is anonymous and no questions will be asked of anyone disposing of other drugs.

All personal information should be removed from the bottles or pill containers.

Syringes and needles will not be accepted because of potential safety hazard.

Items collected will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal.
