Dormont Police Blotter, June 3-10

The following information was supplied by the Dormont police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Aggravated assault, loitering, public drunkenness:

Jonathan Thomas Scott, 24, of Abbeyville Road, Mount Lebanon, was charged with aggravated assault and related crimes after police said they were called about a stranger asleep on a resident’s back porch on June 8.

When police arrived to the home in the 3300 block of Piedmont Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., Scott became belligerent and aggressive, police said.

Scott hit Sgt. Ralf Zawischa in the face and officer Thomas Mathis in the chest and arms, police said. Police used a Taser to subdue him.

Scott was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct and one count each of loitering and prowling and public drunkenness.

Theft:

A resident of the 1300 block of Wisconsin Avenue reported on June 5 that a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver, a Beretta 9 mm handgun and a Remington 12 gauge shotgun were taken from his home. The man said the guns were likely taken by a person known to him on May 21.

Burglary:

A woman living in an apartment in the 1400 block of Mervin Avenue reported on June 7 that someone had taken about $50 worth of money and jewelry. There were no signs of forced entry.

DUI:

Zachary Mincin, 31, of the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh, was cited for driving under the influence and traffic violations after a sergeant observed him weaving on West Liberty Avenue about 11:30 p.m. on June 5. After stopping Mincin, police said they found several empty beer bottles on the front seat. Mincin failed a field sobriety test, police said.

Sexual Assault:

County detectives are investigating a claim by a girl that she was sexually assaulted by several juveniles at the castle playground in Dormont Park around 12:30 a.m. on June 3. Police said the juveniles denied assaulting the girl and claimed instead she had been drinking and making out with them. Sgt. Phil Ross said police have asked that a light at the playground be turned on at night to deter loitering.
