Dormont Man Arrested on Retail Theft Warrant

Barry Hayes has been arrested for the same charge twice before, according to police records.

A Dormont man was arrested and charged last week for a theft at a local gas station grocery store, and police said its not the first time the man has been arrested for a theft incident.

Barry Hayes, 50, was charged with retail theft after stealing items from the Exxon On the Go Market on West Liberty Avenue on June 24.

Officers responded to the store on June 25 when the store's manager reported that surveillance footage showed a man matching Hayes's description stealing several items from a rack the night before.

Police used surveillance footage from the store and a driver's license on file to identify Hayes.

Police said Hayes's criminal record showed that he had been arrested and plead guilty to retail theft in two prior incidents. An arrest warrant was issued for Hayes, and Hayes was arrested on July 12 at 9:30 a.m. on West Liberty Avenue.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 18 at 2 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Blaise P. Larotonda.
