March 31

  • aided the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department in response to a fire at 1458 Grandin Ave. at 7:36 a.m. The fire reportedly started in a second floor bedroom. • Dormont and Castle Shannon police responded to an apartment in the 2800 block of West Liberty Avenue at 3:05 p.m. for report that two people had kicked in the door of the apartment and were shouting at the residents, who had locked themselves in a bedroom. Police determined that the two had come to the apartment to retrieve a diamond ring that they accused one resident of stealing. Police located the ring at the Cash for Gold store on West Liberty Avenue. Police said the owner of the ring bought the ring back, and that she did not want to press criminal charges on the condition that one of the apartment residents—whom police said had taken and pawned the ring—reimbursed her the money. No charges have been filed to date.
