Brookline Man Shot, Killed in Oakland

Zachary Sheridan, 24, of Brookline, died early Saturday morning.

A Brookline man has died after being shot in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood, according to reports from local media outlets.

Zachary Sheridan, 24, of Brookline, and formerly a standout football player at Slippery Rock University, was shot outside Original Hot Dog Shop, WPXI reported.

According to WPXI's report, Sheridan and his friends were involved in a confrontation inside the restaurant that spilled out onto the street.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that Sheridan and his friends were walking along Forbes Avenue toward the University of Pittsburgh campus when the two groups became involved in a fist fight outside Dunkin' Donuts. When Sheridan and his friends tried to leave, a man fired a handgun and Sheridan was struck in the neck.

The shooter is described as a black male, 5' 9", 250 pounds, and about 25 years old, with a medium complexion and closely cropped hair.

According to WPXI, police arrested a Lincoln-Lemington man as a suspect, but the man was released and charges were not filed against him.
