Brookline Man Charged with Open Lewdness

This is the second time in six weeks that Daniel Hays has been charged with a similar crime.

For the second time in six weeks, Pittsburgh police have arrested a Brookline man for open lewdness.

Daniel Hays, 26, of Brookline, was arrested Wednesday at his Bellaire Avenue home after a woman in Mount Washington told police he drove up to her as she walked along Southern Street, asked several times if she wanted a ride, and exposed himself.

The victim was able to report Hays's license plate number to police, who traced him to the Bellaire home, where Hays lives with a woman and her 12-year-old child. Due to what police reported as "deplorable living conditions" inside the home, both Hays and Theresa Rodgers were charged with endangering the welfare of children.

Hays was additionally charged with open lewdness, and is being held in Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15 at 8 a.m. before Judge Donna Jo McDaniel.

Hays was previously arrested on June 8 after several residents reported seeing him masturbating publicly in the Brookline area.

Pittsburgh police Zone 6 officers ask that anyone who has had encounters with Hays, possibly in the Brookline, Beechview, or Mount Washington areas, contact them at 412-937-3095.
