Beechview Man Killed in East Carnegie

A Beechview man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the East Carnegie neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

A Beechview man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the East Carnegie neighborhood that straddles Scott Township, Green Tree and Pittsburgh.

Mileek Grissom, 23, was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m. at Mercy Hospital not long after the shooting in the 600 block of Noblestown Road, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that investigators charged 24-year-old Lamar Alston late Sunday night. He apparently tried to run from the scene but was stopped by a and his dog.

Heidelberg police Chief Vernon Barkley said Sgt. Dennis Dixon and his German shepherd, Rocky, responded to the shooting scene to assist other officers. Rocky “tracked and apprehended” the suspect by biting him when he refused to listen to orders from police officers to put down his gun, Barkley said. He added that the suspect was taken to Allegheny County Jail.

“This is what all the training and mutual aid is about,” Barkley said.

Pittsburgh police are handling the investigation because it happened in their jurisdiction.
