Arrest Made for Car Fire at Dormont Exxon Station

Dormont police have details about a car fire that occurred Dec. 2 at the Exxon station on West Liberty Avenue.

Dormont police have made an arrest following a Dec. 2 car fire at the Exxon station on West Liberty Avenue in Dormont.

Police arrested Barry Hinkle, 33, of Dormont, after reviewing surveillance tapes from the gas station.

Dormont police responded to Exxon just before 3 p.m. on Dec. 2 for a report that a car in the parking lot was on fire.

According to the police report, someone used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire by the time police arrived. Police noticed that rags appeared to have been thrown underneath the car, and determined they had been used to start the fire.

Police said surveillance tapes from the gas station showed a man, identified as Hinkle, setting fire to the car. According to the police report, Hinkle knew the car’s owner. Police said Hinkle admitted to setting the fire.
