West Liberty Avenue Paving Begins Tonight

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.

Contractors for PennDOT will begin repaving West Liberty Avenue starting Thursday, October 6.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Wenzell Avenue/Brookline Boulevard and Pioneer Avenue/Hargrove Street near Route 51 and the Liberty Tunnel.

The work will occur weeknights (Monday-Thursday) from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Oct. 14 and this weekend, Oct. 7-10, from 7 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday. Weekday lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will also continue.

The overall $7.3 million project will mill and resurface nearly two and half miles of West Liberty Avenue from Saw Mill Run Boulevard to McFarland Road.

Contractors will also make minor base repairs, joint repairs, inlet and manhole improvements, improved delineation to clarify lane designations, new traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, ADA ramp and sidewalk improvements, and roadway excavation and reconstruction to remove old trolley tracks, cobble stone and slag/cement.

The project will conclude late this year. The Lane Construction Corporation of Pittsburgh is the prime contractor.
