Traffic Restrictions on Route 51 as ITS Facilities Are Installed

The work along Saw Mill Run Boulevard will continue weekdays through Nov. 25.

PennDOT District 11 will be installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) facilities on Saw Mill Run Boulevard (Route 51) weekdays through Nov. 25, weather permitting. 

Short-term lane and shoulder closures may occur as needed.  Work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Saw Mill Run Boulevard between the West End Bridge and Crane Avenue.

Bruce and Merrilees Electric Co. of New Castle, PA will be performing the work.

The ITS includes traffic cameras, message boards, speed sensors and other components that help improve traffic flow by providing information for motorists. The ITS facilities also assist in improving emergency response.   

Motorists should use caution, slow down, and expect changing patterns when traveling through the area. Log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on most major roadways before traveling.
