Shots Fired Outside of Dormont's R Bar

Two are in custody after a shooting outside of the West Liberty Avenue bar.

Two people were arrested Wednesday night after a shooting outside of R Bar in Dormont.

Dormont police responded to the bar at 11:40 p.m. for a call about a disturbance, but police Sgt. Ralf Zawischa said the two men involved were no longer at the scene when police arrived. They returned to the bar at 12:10 a.m.

"The two arrested were involved in an altercation inside R Bar about 25 minutes before the shooting, and they were ejected from bar then," Zawischa said. "They came back later."

Zawischa said a woman walking into the bar just after midnight to buy cigarettes told a bar tender she saw the two men "hanging out" on the corner of West Liberty Avenue and Illinois Avenue. When the bar tender looked outside, police said he saw one of the men pull out a gun, and he tried to close and lock the door.

A bullet hit the door, and the man, as well as a woman standing nearby, were hit with shards of glass. Zawischa said the injuries were minor. No one was shot and no major injuries were reported.

Zawischa said the names of the suspects are not yet being released because the paperwork has not been completed.

Shots fired. Firearm used in the commission of a crime. Any bets on how quick this gets a plea bargain down to disorderly conduct or public intox. Current law in PA Title 18 calls out strong penalties. Our revolving door system of justice won't prosecute, and these two guys will on the street again in no time flat.

They should have been taken in the first time the cops were called last night!

Dormont cops are top of the line. They know what to do and when...how bout this...make the bar keep accountable for the amount of alcohol they are serving? It is all about the bottom line in bars....make money and do not worry about the patron...wrong and illegal.

Dormont PD is hardly to blame for the criminal acts of these two characters. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is when they find the bad guys, lock them up, and find out in 2 weeks that they are on the street because the DA cut a plea bargain. I'm going to follow this carefully, and once the names of the two rocket scientists are put in print, I'll take a peek at the PA website that shows prior criminal activity. Want to bet that these two are not choir boys?

This could be why they weren't "Sgt. Ralf Zawischa said the two men involved were no longer at the scene when police arrived."

Wow! Guess the R Bar will change its name now to "R Shooting Gallery"? (chuckle)

The one time I went in there the owner (at least I think it was the owner) talked about how I wanted to clean the place up and start bringing in bands and change up the clientele.

These two jackals came in the bar looking for trouble. After a fine night of music, with an always well behaved, older crowd,.these guys bumped people, spoke arrogantly when asked to leave because of their behaviour.and initiated contact with an employee. It had NOTHING to do with what they were served .They later admitted they were on drugs. Were you there?. How do you pass judgement on a place if you weren't there?. Judge not,..lest YOU be judged.
