Shots Fired Outside of Dormont's R Bar

Two are in custody after a shooting outside of the West Liberty Avenue bar.

Two people were arrested Wednesday night after a shooting outside of R Bar in Dormont.

Dormont police responded to the bar at 11:40 p.m. for a call about a disturbance, but police Sgt. Ralf Zawischa said the two men involved were no longer at the scene when police arrived. They returned to the bar at 12:10 a.m.

"The two arrested were involved in an altercation inside R Bar about 25 minutes before the shooting, and they were ejected from bar then," Zawischa said. "They came back later."

Zawischa said a woman walking into the bar just after midnight to buy cigarettes told a bar tender she saw the two men "hanging out" on the corner of West Liberty Avenue and Illinois Avenue. When the bar tender looked outside, police said he saw one of the men pull out a gun, and he tried to close and lock the door.

A bullet hit the door, and the man, as well as a woman standing nearby, were hit with shards of glass. Zawischa said the injuries were minor. No one was shot and no major injuries were reported.
