Roads Worsen in Dormont, Brookline Area as Snow Falls

Roads are getting slick, and we're expected to see snowfall for the next several hours.

As snow continues to fall Friday morning, roads are getting worse and traffic is slowing down on West Liberty Avenue.

Roads are mostly slushy, as of 11 a.m., but are slick in some spots. The snow is making is difficult to see center lines on the road.

Dormont police Sgt. Jim Briglia advised drivers to be careful.

"It's getting a little tricky out there," he said. "Our street department is out now."

An accident on McFarland Road in Dormont was reported Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Highway accidents have been reported as well. Canon-McMillan Patch reported a multi-vehicle accident on I-79 southbound near the Canonsburg exit just after 10 a.m., and Chartiers Valley Patch reported that traffic is moving slowly along I-79 northbound, north of Bridgeville.

As much as three inches of snow is expected in the area by Friday night. There is also a winter weather advisory in effect in the region until 1 a.m.

Great job today by the Dormont Street Department. I work in Foster Plaza and noticed the streets in better shape once I got into Dormont.

I was on many main roads during the snow yesterday: Clifton, 88/Brownsville around S. Park, Curry Hollow, Rt. 51, Rt. 88, & McNeilly. Took 2 1/2 hours. The 1st road I could actually SEE was W. Liberty - great job Dormont :)
