McNeilly Avenue Water Main Breaks

Service was expected to be restored Wednesday morning.

Crews were working to repair a 20-inch water main that burst on McNeilly Avenue on Tuesday.

Pennsylvania American Water spokeswoman Josephine Posti said the main burst about 5 p.m. While the cause wasn't immediately known, she said it's possible the main, installed in the 1930s, had reached the end of its useful life.

About 50 customers were affected, she said.

Customers in Dormont were also without water for a time Tuesday, but Posti said it's unlikely the McNeilly break was the cause.

A customer service representative said there was a leak at Hillsdale and Annex avenues and a broken main at Voelkel and LaSalle, but aside from a bit of water in the road near Annex, no problems were visible.
