Get Out: The Weekend Planner

Here are 10 events to check out this weekend.

It’s Friday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Where?/When?: New Hazlett Theater, 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: "A Lyrical Christmas Carol" will be on stage at the New Hazlett Theater. Dickens's magical tale of Scrooge, Ghosts, Tiny Tim and the Cratchit family returns this holiday by popular demand. This classic tale of redemption, was created in 1991 by Ken and Jane Gargaro. This heartwarming show brims with holiday spirit. Seasonal carols and the music of Bach, Mozart, and Vaughn Williams provide a tuneful framework for this production.

Where?/When?: Carnegie Science Center, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday
Why go?: Climb on board for a great combination of piping-hot breakfast, The Polar Express: An IMAX Experience, loads of family fun, time in the Miniature Railroad & Village,® and a chance to meet Mr. McFeely.  It’s a holiday tradition, so register now!
Pricing: Adult: $25 per member and $30 per non-member; child or senior: $20 per member and $25 per non-member; all children 1–2 years: $10.

Where?/When?: Lowe's, 10 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: It's the second part of the 2011 Lowe's Train! Bring your kids to Lowe's and they can build this awesome Coal Car!

Why Go?: Stop in for a hot cup of Peppermint Mocha Java and the music of Marbles for Eyes. Be sure to do some holiday shopping while enjoying the show.

Where?/When?: , 1 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: South Hills Junior Orchestra will perform at a Benefit Concert at Boyce Middle School in Upper St. Clair. The theme of the event is Holiday Music and Giving, and the student members of the orchestra will conduct and play seasonal carols such as Sleigh Ride, Chanukah Celebration, Joy to the World, Deck the Halls and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. The concert is a fundraiser for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, the Upper St. Clair School District Performing Arts and specifically the Boyce Theatre.  The organization is requesting that those who attend the concert and all SHJO members bring food items as a donation to the Food Bank. In addition, monetary gifts will be used to help purchase a new piano for Boyce Middle School. The Boyce Middle School would like to raise $6,000 for an upright piano for music performances.

Where?/When?: , 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: Join Sterling Yoga for the 2nd Annual Local Ariste Market. Vendors include cloths, jewelry, soaps, vegan treats and much more!

Where?/When?: , 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The Academy of Dance by Lori presents "A Magical Holiday Dance Spectacular." Join Clara and her brother on a magical trip through your favorite holiday stories. Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa's elves take you on a wonderful trip. This production highlights your favorite holiday characters through wonderful dancing. The best of ballet but a lot of jazz combine to entertain the whole family. The story ends with Pittsburgh's own "Rockerettes" in a magical fun-filled event.

Where?/When?: Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 5 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: Don't miss out on this special night of performances by local Orthodox church choirs featuring beautiful hymns of the Nativity and ethnic Christmas carols expressed in their unique traditions.
Pricing: A free-will donation will be collected.

Where?/When?: , 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The Christmas Cantata, “Shout the Good News” will be presented on Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. Join the church for this joyous musical celebration presented by the holiday choir and orchestra! Be sure to invite guests to this community outreach program.
