The Hollywood Theater and Pittsburgh's Day of Giving

As the Hollywood Theater in Dormont plans for its transition from film to digital projection, your support through Pittsburgh's Day of Giving counts more than ever!

Your dollar will stretch a bit farther this Wednesday, October 3rd.  From midnight to midnight that day, your donation to any of hundreds of worthy nonprofits around Pittsburgh will open the lock to an additional $750,000 of funding from the Pittsburgh Foundation.

In the case of the Hollywood Theater in Dormont, that extra bump couldn’t come at a better time.  As 100 years of 35mm motion picture film projection gives way to new digital technologies, the Hollywood must keep pace with that change or be rolled over by it.  It has to either go digital or go dark.  A new digital projector and needed upgrades will run our organization about $75,000, and we need your help to make this essential transition.

The Hollywood Theater is yours.  Since 1933, the people of Dormont and Pittsburgh have sat in its darkened hall, ate its popcorn, and watched thousands of movies together.   You brought your dates, sat in the balcony, laughed with your family and friends, and you experienced films like King Kong, Singing in the Rain, Rear Window, Some Like It Hot, Jaws, and E.T. with your neighbors and community.

Together, we can help preserve the wonderful history of the Hollywood Theater and also protect its future.  By making a donation on Pittsburgh’s Day of Giving on October 3rd you will play a vital part in helping bring the Hollywood Theater into the digital age and keep it open for many years to come.

How does it work?  It’s simple.  On Wednesday, October 3rd go to www.pittsburghgives.org, look for "Friends of the Hollywood Theater" in the drop down menu (yes, we are under F!), and then make your tax deductible donation with a Visa or Mastercard.
