in Dormont is kicking off the morning with a breakfast special of red raspberry heart waffles. Heart-shaped cookies and a variety of cupcakes also are available.

Valentine's day cupcake flavors are Lemon Lavender, Dark Chocolate Ginger, Passion Fruit, Vanilla Bean, Almond Rose, Mint Chip, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, Chocolate Kiss, Cocoa Cinnamon and Chocolate/Vanilla. The pastry case will be open until 5:30 p.m. today.

Just down the street at , the cases are full of heart-shaped cakes and cookies. Today’s specialties include chocolate-covered strawberries, and red velvet cakes with cream cheese icing are the special for the whole month.

February also marks Potomac Bakery’s 85th anniversary, so stop in to wish them well!

In Brookline, also has cases full of Valentine’s Day specials. Like the others, heart-shaped cookies and cakes are on the menu. Kribel’s also has double-layer heart cakes and strawberry short cakes.

Their special today is the Dozen Roses cake, a narrow cake in a floral box, tied with a ribbon.
