South Hills Beauty Academy Offers Salon Services Without the Salon Price

Location, longevity, reputation and price are features of South Hills Beauty Academy.

It's summertime and that means it's time for pedicures, waxing and sun-kissed highlights. Are you new to having salon services done?
Have you been too nervous to try them out, or feel they are too expensive for your budget? might be what you’ve been looking for.

South Hills Beauty Academy has been rooted in the West Liberty scenery for more than 40 years. Nikki Barrett, supervisor and educational coordinator, has been with the school for the past 12 years.

She feels that since the school is not technically isolated—meaning that they teach a variety of methods and not just focus on a particular brand of teaching—this sets them apart from other beauty schools.

The teachers are continually being educated in the newest treatments and techniques available so they can complement the core curriculum. They all have longevity at the school and bring individual outside expertise to the classroom.

The beauty school is operated as a full-service salon. Customers can receive cuts, color, highlights, European facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, massage and body treatments from the students at a reduced rate. Cost for the services is for product only.

Teacher supervised, student learning clinics are offered Monday through Friday, starting at 10 a.m., and Monday and Thursday evenings by appointment. Before students can provide services at the clinic, they must complete 300 class hours and a worksheet cataloging that they have performed each service up to standard in the classroom.

A sampling of prices: colors are $14, perms range from $22-24, cuts are $9, and facials are $16.  Consultations are done by the students
for them to get familiar with and comfortable talking to the public.

Once the consult is complete, Barrett looks over the service and will mix color formulas, give the students a guide for the hair cuts and help them with proper technique.
