Patrons to will want to make a stop at the theater’s newsstand on their way to the concession counter.
Portions of the newsstand, which houses DVDs and other merchandise for sale, are now reserved to showcase local businesses.
“This is open to any business in Dormont,” said John Maggio of the Friends of Hollywood Theater.
Currently, and have displays on the newsstand. Menus and brochures for several local businesses—including , , , , and others—are displayed in front of the stand.
Maggio said the plan is to prominently feature two or three local businesses in the newsstand and rotate them each month. The front of the stand will always hold fliers for other local businesses.
The display is part of the Friends’ plan to encourage patrons to shop locally. The goal of the organization, which received nonprofit status last month, is to have a positive economic impact on the business district.
“It’s part of our mission statement, and I’ve seen it since we’ve been open,” Maggio said.
Between Anime movies last weekend, Maggio said he saw one customer leave the theater and return with a bag from The Exchange. He looks at it as a sign that Hollywood Theater is already making an impact.
“We’re seeing it more and more,” he said.
