Brookline's Home to Pittsburgh's Only Egyptian Restaurant

Isis Cafe serves up unique flavors.

If you're looking for a new ethnic restaurant to try, you might want to try the only Egyptian restaurant in Pittsburgh—Isis Cafe.

Located on Brookline Boulevard, it is run by an Egyptian family.

Manager Ahmed Fathi told the Tribune Review that people always told his mother she should open a restaurant, so she did.

The restaurant has a homey feel, with some familiar Middle Eastern dishes like Shish Tawook and Koufta.

There's also Bamia, an okra stew that used a short okra that is different than the long, crunchy kind, and Molokheya, a stewed Egyptian jute plant with lots of garlic, similar to spinach, according to the report.
