Brookline Pub Re-Opens

The pub was closed Oct. 19 for a dispute over paying drink taxes.

Brookliners can once again meet for drinks and wings at Brookline Pub, which re-opened late last week after being closed for several days.

Allegheny County sheriff's deputies shut down the pub Oct. 19, citing failure to pay drink taxes. County Treasurer John Weinstein told the Post-Gazette earlier this month that the pub's operators owe more than $50,000 in overdue drink taxes.

Owner Leo Hughes said he believed there to be discrepancies with that claim, and said the establishment was able to work out the problem with the county.

"We figured out a few discrepancies and were able to come to an agreement," Hughes said. "We're open. We're here again and everything is just the same as always. We're looking forward to seeing our regular customers."

Hughes and his staff were at the pub last Friday painting and preparing for their Halloween party, which was planned for Saturday. The pub is again open during its usual hours—daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The kitchen is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
