Flooding Reported in Dormont, Banksville Road

As commuters head for work Wednesday morning, there is heavy rain and flooded roadways to navigate.

The City of Pittsburgh issued a statement at 9:23 a.m. that the following areas have been closed due to flooding: Route 51 in the Edgebrook area, Banksville from Crane to the Parkway, the area of McNeilly Road/Route 88, Mornage near Cannevin, West Liberty near Route 51 and Bausman and Edgebrook.

Route 51 was closed down and cars are being re-routed to the Parkway. Some Route 51 businesses have been affected by the flooding.

The city also reports extremely high traffic along West Carson Street and advises that motorists should avoid going toward the West End, even though the West End Bridge has been reopened. Traffic conditions are also  extremely heavy in the Bausman Street area.

Allegheny County's Twitter feed is reporting that the roadway and residences in the 1100 block of Arkansas Avenue in Dormont are flooding. The county also reported flooded basements in the 1100 block of Biltmore Ave.

Dormont Resident Nick Yurkovich captured the above photo of flooding on LaSalle Avenue in Dormont. Portions of the Parkway, and of Banksville Road, are also reportedly flooded.

KDKA Radio is reporting a mudslide on Banksville Road near the tunnels, as well as flooding on Route 51 and in parts of Carnegie and West Liberty Avenue.

WPXI is reporting that the westbound (outbound) Fort Pitt Tunnel is closed due to flooding, and that traffic will be detoured from the Fort Pitt Bridge to West Carson Street, then to Route 51 back to the Parkway West.

Flooding also was reported at the intersection of Connor Road and Route 88 in Bethel Park.
