Brookline-Founded 'Young Steel' to Hold Competition Thursday

The group is holding a big competition on Thursday, and the grand prize is a Nook e-reader.

Young Pittsburgh-area poets are invited to show their stuff in an upcoming competition, and could win some great prizes in the process.

The Young Steel Youth Slam competition will be held at The Union Project on Negley Avenue in Pittsburgh on Feb. 7. The grand prize is a new Nook e-reader.

Information was posted on a Facebook page for the event:

Come be a part of Young Steel and share with us your poetry. To be prepared ( in case you advance to the next rounds) have three pieces of your own original poetry generally recited or performed under three minutes! Young Steel was founded last year by Brookline native Tera McIntosh and her fellow members of Steel City Slam, Pittsburgh's adult poetry slam league. Members of both groups are from all over the Pittsburgh area, and frequently perform during open mic nights at Cannon Coffee.

For their work with Young Steel, McIntosh and others from Brookline were recently featured in Equal Magazine. Click here to see who was featured.
