Filmmakers Allison Kole and Devin Gallagher, both Pittsburgh natives, will premiere their award-winning documentary, “Married in Spandex” at the historic Hollywood Theater in Dormont on Friday,
September 7th at 8pm. (doors open at 7pm)
The film is a hilarious and heartwarming personal
story that explores love and relationships, along with nuanced perspectives on marriage equality and yes, gold lame spandex. The film has screened in Ireland,Toronto, and more than a dozen festivals across the United States and has won numerous awards including audience favorite, best documentary, and best Iowa film.
Audiences and critics alike have responded with enthusiasm:
"It's a layup of a film!" ..."Touching, informative and very entertaining - it's a home run!"..."I really can't say enough about this film. It is funny and perfect! Half the time you actually missed some of the dialogue because of how hard the audience was laughing."
“Married in Spandex” follows Amanda and Rachel as they travel from their home in the City of Brotherly Love to the town of Ames, Iowa for a celebration like no one has ever
seen. Told simply, despite the complicated questions its story raises, “Married in Spandex” is part road movie, part political commentary, and ALL love story.
The premiere will also feature live music, basket raffles and a local Pittsburgh short film. A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screening. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door (students with ID, $7).
