Washington Road Improvements Begin April 22

The project will affect a large portion of Washington Road, as well as parts of Gilkeson and Connor roads.

PennDOT and Lindy Paving of New Castle will begin a paving project today, Monday, that could affect traffic on Washington Road (Route 19).

The $5.56 million project includes milling and resurfacing, guiderail, minor drainage, curbs, pavement markings, signing, traffic signals, median removal, ADA ramps and other improvements on 2.55 miles of Washington Road from the intersection of Conner/Gilkeson (Route 3038) roads to Alfred Street. 

Work and improvements will also occur on Gilkeson and Connor roads in the area of the Washington Road intersection.

Overall work will conclude in early 2014.

Work and traffic restrictions will begin on Monday, April 22.

Restrictions requiring lane closures and single lane traffic will occur according to the following schedule:

  • Both directions - 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
  • Northbound - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
  • Southbound - 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
  • Weekends - Both directions from 6 p.m. on Fridays through 6 a.m. on Mondays. 

Traffic restrictions will be coordinated to minimize impacts on commuters. No northbound (inbound) restrictions will occur between 6-9 a.m. and no southbound (outbound) restrictions will occur between 3-6 p.m. weekdays.
