Route 19, Connor/Gilkeson Improvements Continue This Weekend

Traffic adjustments will be made.

Work to improve Washington Road (Route 19/3069) and Connor/Gilkeson Road (Route 3038) in Mt. Lebanon will continue this weekend, weather permitting, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0.

Single-lane traffic in both directions will occur around-the-clock on Washington Road between Connor/Gilkeson Road and Ordale Boulevard from 6 p.m. on Friday, July 19, through 6 a.m. on Monday, July 22. Crews will be placing barrier walls, eradicating paint and implementing new pavement markings  Crossovers may occur to allow the work to be completed.

Additionally, traffic on the eastbound lanes of Connor/Gilkeson will be shifted into the westbound lanes beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. Single-lane traffic will be maintained in both directions. Crews will be eradicating paint and implementing new pavement markings.

When that work is complete, traffic will be shifted into the eastbound lanes to allow work to continue in the westbound lanes. Single-lane traffic will be maintained in both directions until 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 21.

Motorists are advised to use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when traveling through the work area. Expect delays and allow extra time.

PennDOT officials remind motorists to use all open lanes to merge points.

The $5.56-million project includes milling and resurfacing, guiderail, minor drainage, curbs, pavement markings, signing, traffic signals, median removal, ADA ramps and other improvements on 2.55 miles of Washington Road from Connor/Gilkeson to Alfred Street. Work and improvements will also occur on Gilkeson and Connor roads in the area of the Washington Road intersection. Overall work will conclude in early 2014. The prime contractor is Lindy Paving.
