PublicStuff Working, Issues Being Addressed

Borough manager Jeff Naftal said people are using the PublicStuff system, and so far, it's working.

Last week, a very common thing happened on West Liberty Avenue during rush hour—a pickup truck was parked illegally, and it was blocking traffic.

But this time, the inconvenience didn't last long. With the help of the PublicStuff system, a resident reported the problem at 7:45 a.m. Dormont borough manager Jeff Naftal said that by 7:50 a.m., the Dormont police had addressed the problem.

"People are definitely using it," Naftal said. "We're getting a lot of improper parking reports, especially on West Liberty, especially during rush hour."

The system has been up and running for about 10 days, and people also have used it to report speeding and potholes.

Naftal said when a complaint is sent through PublicStuff, the department qualified to handle it receives an automatic notification and can address it quickly. Naftal also receives a copy, and follows up on the request.

Users also can follow up on requests through the system, and can see what requests other users have submitted.

"The more people who are using it, the better," he said. "It means we're catching problems sooner and fixing them quicker, and the residents know we're not just here sitting on our hands. We want to fix these things."
