People's Food Mart Sponsoring Fundraisers, Snacks for Community

Representatives from People's Food Mart on Potomac Avenue made Dormont's council meeting a little sweeter on Monday evening.

The store provided cookies, lemonade and iced tea, free of change, to those who attended Monday's Dormont Council meeting. The drinks were donated by Turner's Dairy.

"We just want to increase awareness about the store and send a positive message about the store," said employee Dan Cottrill. "We want people to know we're down there and we're giving back to the area."

Store co-owner Melissa Verner said she and her employees plan to attend several meetings and events around town this summer with free cookies and drinks.

She said the store also can sponsor fundraisers for school groups.

People's Food Mart plans to provide snacks on Wednesday, June 5, at a public meeting at Dormont's Hollywood Theater on Potomac Avenue. The meeting is for residents and those who work in the borough to publicly discuss the improvements they'd like to see around town. For more information about the meeting, click here.

"The Hollywood is our next one, and after that, all summer we'll be at different spots around town," Verner said.
