Morning Accident at Liberty Tunnel

A witness told Patch the accident was "bizarre," but didn't hold up traffic long.

A traffic accident occurred in the outbound lanes of the Liberty Tunnel around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, but a witness told Dormont-Brookline Patch traffic still seemed to be moving through the tunnels—slowly—after the crash.

Dormont resident Daniele Ventresca said she was on her way home from work  when she witnessed the accident.

"It was the most bizarre accident I've ever seen," she said.

Ventresca said she was waiting at the stop light at the end of the tunnel when a car next to her backed up suddenly, hitting both the tunnel wall and another car. Ventresca's car was not damaged.

She said the traffic pattern in and around the tunnel already was confusing because two cars appeared to have broken down in the left lane, and traffic was moving around them.

Ventresca said she was not able to safely stop her car, but did call 911 to report the accident.

A WPXI correspondant reported via Twitter that traffic was moving again a few minutes after the accident.
