Mardi Gras on Main Street This Saturday

Event to benefit Dormont Main Street and Allegheny Together Program.

This Saturday it’s Mardi Gras in Dormont, with a celebration that serves a dual cause.

Councilwoman and Dormont Main Street member Joan Hodson said it should be a “fun for all” event, and that proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Dormont Main Street in its work with the Allegheny Together Program.

The goal is to raise $5,000 for the program, Hodson said.

The Allegheny Together Program launched in 2007 as a way to assist business districts throughout the county.

George Pitcher, who is involved with both Dormont Main Street and Allegheny Together, said Dormont was selected by Allegheny Together for downtown improvements.

Those improvements could include facade improvements to storefronts, sidewalk improvements, constructing tree planters, and new signage for borough streets. Those projects already are under study, he said, and he hopes to see some of those projects begin next year.

The Mardi Gras party will be held at the Dormont Rec Center, this Saturday, Feb, 18 from 8 p.m. until midnight. The $20 per person cost includes beer for those of age, mixers and a light buffet.

Tickets are available at the Dormont Borough Building, by contacting Karen Coyle at 412-720-8081 or karencoyle@prudentialpreferred.com, or by contacting Michelle Ross at 412-860-9035.
