Local Troops “Scouting for Food”

Cub Scout Pack 870 and Boy Scout Troop 23 will collect nonperishable food items in the following week to donate to Brookline Food Pantry.

Have a few extra canned goods in the cupboards? Two local groups will be “Scouting for Food” this weekend in Dormont.

in Dormont will collaborate with Boy Scout Troop 23 this weekend to collect food for those in need in the community.

The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will place plastic bags on doors throughout Dormont Borough this Saturday morning, April 7, and will return next week on April 14 to pick them up.

Residents can fill the bags with items to donate, and leave the bags on the edge of their porches, in view from the street, for pickup before 9 a.m. on April 14.

Scouting For Food is a national effort by Packs and Troops to fight hunger. Pack 870 is chartered to , and participating in Scouting for Food is just one of the year-round activities the group participates in to help others.

Items needed include: canned meats or fish, fruit juice, soups, baby formula, Jello, pudding mix, pasta, sauces, canned fruit, canned vegetables, baby cereal, baby diapers, powdered milk, peanut butter, hot and cold cereal.

Frozen items, items stored in glass, outdated and opened items will not be accepted. Monetary donations also cannot be accepted.

All food collected will be donated to the Brookline Food Pantry.
